Your favourite era in electronic music?
For me it is house from 89 - 90, and the techstep drum and bass stuff around 97 - 99.

You cunts?

1989-1995 for me as well.
My favourite dance track is Pacific and I have had a continued love for 808 State's music since then, but there was so much more.
K-Klass, Adamski, Shades of Rhythm & N-Joi to name just a few.
And it wasn't just hearing the tracks in a DJ set, their live gigs were great too.

Re: Your favourite era in electronic music?
House music back in 89 was very special indeed. Still my favourite year for House music.

As already said in this thread Soft Cell broke all sorts of barriers down with Tainted Love in 81 and opened the doors for many bands.
However if you go back one year earlier to 1980 and listen to their first release Memorabilia which was a big club hit, you'll see they were way ahead of their time. Memorabilia is said to be the first ever Techno record.

Thanks for that, some good stuff to test out there.

Loved the first Public Service Broadcasting album (War Room) and their Everest EP.

Their concept of playing old war broadcasts to an electronic soundtrack is a very simple idea that has been very well executed.

Now. There is so much great Electronic Musi around at the moment

AK/DK
Warm Digits
Parastatic
Eat Lights Become Lights
Baltic Fleet

The early 80's were excellent for all the Synth Pop and the Original Daddies - Silver Apples, Kraftwerk, Suicide started the legacy.

Re: Your favourite era in electronic music?
Late 70's/ start of 80's

Throbbing Gristle (first time around)
early Cabaret Voltaire
Clock DVA (before Judd overdosed)
early Human League (Ware/Marsh era)
early SPK (before Ne/H/iL finally succeeded in topping himself)
Suicide

don't get me wrong, there was a lot of good stuff after this period, but also a disproportionate amount of generic tosh as the 80s progressed

I've been dancing to Goa/Psy trance since the mid 90's, long enough to be able to enjoy the so called 'old school' sets that are getting played nowadays. Funny how anything older than 5 years old seems to be old school...
